June 2010 - Brian Caudill & Josh Wright earn Black Belts (photo above) - This past Thursday (June 17th) Brian Caudill & Josh Wright, both from Tarkio, earned the rank of Black Belt (First Degree) in the Shinka Shodan Martial Arts Association (S.S.M.A.A.). Both Brian & josh began their formal martial arts training at northwest Martial Arts in October of 2006 under Sensei Chris Yates of Tarkio (a 3rd Degree Black Belt and founder of S.S.M.A.A.). I knew these guys had the physical talents to excel, but over the last several years they’ve gained the most important attributes of a martial artist…compassion, honesty, respect & honor. It’s a pleasure to teach & train with both of them and they are a tremendous asset to the future of Northwest Martial Arts. In addition to being talented martial artist, Josh & Brian are the co-founders of the very popular Northwest Fight Club, a mixed martial art show that has it’s base right here in Tarkio.
In addition, several young members also tested for promotions; Shea DeRosier easily earned his Brown Belt and will be training towards his Black Belt, Gus Hurst graduated into the Intermediate ranks by earning his Green Belt, Gabe Minter also passed his test to earn a Green Belt, and Anna Klute earned her Yellow Belt. May 2010 - SHAE & HALEY COMPETE AT OMAHA CLASSIC TOURNAMENT - Shae Derosier and Haley Conn, both members of Northwest Martial Arts in Tarkio, recently traveled to Omaha, Nebraska to compete in the Omaha Classic. The Omaha Classic is a sport martial art tournament that has been around the Midwest since 1997 and draws over 300 competitors from 7 different states in the Midwest. Shae competed in the Advanced Boys division and placed 4th in Advanced Kata (Forms), he also competed in the Advanced Sparring division where he scored many impressive kicks to earn 4th place (only loosing by one point to the 1st place winner in the preliminary round). Haley competed in the Advanced Girls division where she blew the competition away in the Kata Division by scoring a 9.99 out of a possible 10.00 to earn first place in that division and continued he impressive ways in the Advance Sparring division by out scoring all other competitors on her way another 1st place trophy in that division. Both these kids are hard-working in class and well on there way to having a long and successful career in the martial arts. They are great examples of the type of talent we have in Northwest Missouri and wonderful kids with tons of character.

January 2010 - HALEY CONN & MACKINZIE MEYER COMPETE AT TEAM POWER: This past weekend, Haley Conn and Mackinze Meyer competed in the 2010 Team Power Tournament in Omaha, NE. Haley earned 1st place in Kata & Sparring both; while Mackinzie earned 4th place in Kata & impressed everyone with 2nd place Sparring (even though she was put in the Advanced division). GREAT JOB GUYS!
October 2009 - DALLAS BARRETT WINS 185LB. CHAMPION: October 4th 2009 at the Northwest Fight Club (MMA) show, Dallas Barrett fought for the 185lb. Championship Belt. After two rounds of ginding it out with strikes, Dallas found himself on his back and securing a triagle choke, making his opponent tap midway thru the third round. GREAT WORK DALLAS!
September 2009 - RYAN HOPKINS EARN A FIRST & SECOND PLACE: Ryan Hopkins entered the TEAM POWER NATIONAL Tournament in Council Bluffs, IA. As it turned out, she was the only 12 & under Female Blackbelt with the courage to enter. Consequently, she earned first place for that division. That's impressive enough, but didn't satisfy Ryan need for action. So, with the tournament officials okay, Ryan then entered the Boy's Blackbelt division and earned 2nd place in that division also. CONGRATULATIONS RYAN, WE ARE ALL PROUD OF YOU!!!
July 2009 - JACOB MASONBRINK EARNS HIS BLACK BELT: After 6 years of dedication, training, blood, sweat & some tears, Jacob Masonbrink of Tarkio earned his promotion to Black Belt! After a grewling testing process that took more than 2 hours of sparring, grappling and combat sparring, Jacob proved that he not only wouldn't quit, but that he was deserving of the honor. May 2009 - SEVERAL YOUTH STUDENTS EARN PROMOTIONS: Several students from the youth class were recently promoted. Congratulations you guys, great job!!!
May 2009 - HALEY CONN WINS IN OMAHA! Haley Conn recently competed in the Omaha Classic Tournament. She placed 2nd in Forms, and took home 1st place in Sparring. Haley was the ONLY student from our school that attended. GREAT JOB HALEY!
April 2009 - SETH FLETCHER TAKES FIRST AT CROSSROADS TOURNAMENT: Seth recently competed at the Crossroads Karate Tournament in Cameron, Missouri. He competed in the Advanced division & was able to earn two first place trophies in Sparring & Forms competition. GREAT JOB SETH!
